When investigated in Beirut, GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE required explicitation of the "conscious" response that such networks have towards the ecosystem within both rural and urban settings. Participants opted not to literally translate "green" so as to distinguish GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE as a planned network of both natural and man-made systems.

Participants yielded a translation by using more signifiers to cover syntactic or lexical gaps (the complex meaning of the Source Language word is amplified or distributed over several words in the Target Language).
