The workshop addresses one of the key conditions in cities in the Global South. Informal urbanism is not limited to informal neighborhoods at the city’s peripheries, but rather manifest in everyday urban practices within the city center, such as street vendors, shop extensions on sidewalks, informal traffic rules, and so forth. The discussion aims to challenge the official discourse on informality and develop an alternative lexicon towards more critical urban policies and practices.
This workshop is co-organized by CLUSTER and the Center for Translation Studies at the American University in Cairo.
